Chris Jones

Chris Jones will be at the show presenting for the day and conducting interviews.

Chris began training in the 1980’s initially in WT Taekwondo before switching to ITF style Taekwondo and Kickboxing under Master Kim Stones at his Doncaster based full-time academy. In the late 1990’s, Chris began teach teaching for the academy, working there until the middle of 2002. In late 2002, Chris opened his own full-time centre based in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire where he has continued to teach ever since. Alongside teaching, Chris also perused a career as an independent Stunt Performer and Screen Fighter working on numerous TV and Film productions around Europe and China over the last two decades. Most recently he worked on the Disney TV series ‘Culprits’, with his career starting off in late 2001 performing on the Royal Variety Show. In 2018 he started his podcast ‘Kick Back With Chris The Martial Arts Podcast’ initially just for a bit of fun to learn more about presenting and podcasting, it quickly took off and saw ‘Mittmaster’ Matthew Chapman join as regular co-host and the likes of Jean Claude Van Damme and Mark Dacascos featured and sharing our episodes.

Chris, for many years, was well known for teaching kicking workshops across the UK, often appearing to teach at Martial Arts events. Whilst more recently he’s taken a step back from teaching workshops, he still offers training courses via www.onlinekicking.co.uk and can sometimes be tempted back onto the mats for a kick about ;-)

I got my Dojang n 2017. Became professional Instructor in 2019. Left WTSDA in 2023. I have won 2 gold and two silver in the 2012 and 2014 World Championships in USA. I have won National Grand Champion 4 times in UK (2012, 2017,2018,2019) and European Grand Champion twice (2013 and 2019). I have been inducted into the UK Martial Arts Hall of Fame (2018/19/21).

Tang Soo Do is known for it’s kicking and especially jump kicks. We have also tried to incorporate many applications from our forms to realistic and functional self defence. We also train in many weapons and we always try to keep growing and learn as we go.

My Dojang is called Heads of the Valleys Tang Soo Do and we teach traditional Tang Soo Do there, as well as Eskrima sticks, kickboxing, grappling and other stretching and fitness classes. Our motto is “Master the enemy within and all others cease to be”. And our goal is brining Martial Arts accessible and achievable for everyone.

Heads of the Valleys Tang Soo Do club have been running sessions for people with additional needs since 2019 and specialise in integrating students with Autism into mainstream classes. This is an excellent way for people to socialise, build confidence and develop coping strategies to reduce anxiety – as well as the physical benefits of exercising.
